After disparities between the men’s and women’s tournaments became viral on social media, NCAA basketball authorities apologised to the women’s basketball players and coaches and promised to do better moving forward.

Revealed The Differences Between The Weight Rooms
After images from the previous day revealed the differences between the weight rooms at the two tournaments, Dan Gavitt, senior vice president of basketball for the NCAA, promised to improve during a Zoom call on Friday morning.
Gavitt added, “I apologise to the women’s student-athletes, coaches, and committee for dropping the ball on the San Antonio weight room issue; we’ll get it resolved as quickly as feasible.
Women’s NIT Is Not Funded By The NCAA
Other discrepancies were brought up during the conversation, including the fact that the men’s field has 68 teams while the women’s field has 64, and that the men’s National Invitation Tournament is funded by the NCAA but the women’s NIT is not.
The NIT and field size would be decided in cooperation with membership, according to Gavitt. “We couldn’t decide those things on our own. It is appropriate to bring up those topics once more since they are good questions.
The COVID-19 Testing Procedures
The NCAA has also come under fire for the different “swag bags” handed to men’s and women’s players, the kind of food offered, and the COVID-19 testing procedures used for each.
Speaking about the latter matter, Auriemma told reporters this week that his players undergo daily ‘quick antigen tests’ while the men’s team undergoes’ standard PCR coronavirus tests,’ which led some to wonder why basketball players for men’s and women’s teams would undergo different tests.
Medical professionals generally concur that antigen tests, which search for a specific protein on the virus, are quicker and less expensive than the conventional PCR test. Gavitt claimed that it was his responsibility to supervise and plan every part of the championships.
“With the idea of fostering uniformity and cooperation, we have purposefully grouped basketball under one banner. I’m responsible if we don’t meet these standards “said he.
