The “Mobile Ad ID” is the subject of this article. The Mobile Ad ID, as I understand it, is an identification for your phone that is completely anonymous. As an example, an ad could be shown to you via Facebook’s mobile app.
Your device 1234 would be tracked by Facebook if you clicked on the ad. A DoorDash app is opened as a result of the advertisement. This app tells Facebook device 1234 that they have spent money. If your ad was successful, Facebook can even tell you how much money you spent on it.
There’s Only One Small Hiccup:
Facebook already knows you clicked the ad while signed into the Facebook App. As a result, Facebook believes that device 1234 belongs to you. A mobile ad ID that claims to be “anonymous” is not anonymous at all.
This is why Apple is making a huge push for privacy by requiring users to give permission before sharing Mobile Ad ID with other apps.
