Deepika Kumari, the number one player in the world, qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as a member of the women’s solo competition on Friday and placed ninth with a score of 663 out of a possible 720 points.
When the first half of the round was over, the Indian archer was in fourth place, having shot 334, but she dropped a few places in the last ends.
Kumari stated, “The performance was good and horrible, a little in between.” I’m not sure why I wasn’t better, but I intend to get the hang of my tools so that I can use them in games.
Kumari shot the second-most Xs (the middle ring, smaller than the 10, that breaks ties) in the morning, but a seven in the last end knocked her down two spots in the seeding, from seventh to ninth. Even though Kumari was rated one in the world when she arrived at the 2012 Olympics, she was only able to advance as far as the eighth seed in the individual event, where she was ultimately eliminated.
Kumari is hopeful that her third Olympic appearance will go on a little longer thanks to her new position as a top-10 seed.
